Abstract

Character education is a fundamental aspect of shaping students’ personalities from the elementary school level. One effective strategy for instilling character values is through extracurricular activities, as these activities provide contextual and practice-based learning experiences. This study aims to analyze the cultivation of students’ character values through extracurricular activities at SD Aisyiyah 1 Mataram. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a field study design. The research subjects consisted of the school principal, extracurricular activity supervisors, and students actively involved in extracurricular programs. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, while data analysis was conducted using an interactive analysis model that included data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that extracurricular activities at SD Aisyiyah 1 Mataram are implemented in a planned and sustainable manner and contribute significantly to the development of students’ character values, particularly discipline, responsibility, religiosity, cooperation, and leadership. The internalization of character values occurs through teachers’ role modeling, habituation during activities, and reflective discussions with students. In addition, a supportive school environment based on Islamic values further strengthens the effectiveness of extracurricular programs. Teachers and school administrators play a crucial role in ensuring the consistency and continuity of character education through extracurricular activities.  This study concludes that extracurricular activities serve as an effective medium for strengthening character education in elementary schools and can be considered a best practice model for holistic character development. The findings are expected to provide practical insights for schools in optimizing extracurricular programs as part of character education efforts.
