Abstract

The use of renewable energy derived from local resources is a key strategy for promoting sustainable development and raising environmental awareness from an early age. One form of renewable energy available in rural areas is biogas produced from animal waste, particularly cow dung. This community engagement initiative aims to enhance elementary school students' understanding of renewable energy concepts by teaching about biogas produced from cow dung. The activity took place on January 31 at SDN 3 Sembalun Bumbung, located in Sembalun District, East Lombok Regency, with a focus on fourth and sixth grade students. Methods used during the activity included clear and engaging presentation of information, demonstrations of the biogas production process, lighting a biogas stove, and an introduction to the use of biogas byproducts (sludge) as organic fertilizer. Assessment was conducted qualitatively by observing student engagement, enthusiasm, and reactions throughout the activity. The results of this initiative indicate that students understand the basic principles of biogas, recognize the benefits of renewable energy, and understand the importance of environmentally responsible livestock waste management. It is hoped that this initiative will serve as a practical and relevant model for renewable energy education aimed at elementary school students, particularly in rural areas.
